This Artisanal Incense kit was inspired by many years of burning raw incense. We have always enjoyed the purity that tree resins bring into a space. Through our travels to exotic places like Egypt and Morocco we found suppliers for beautiful pure solid resins. After years of experimenting with using copper bowls filled with heat absorbing medium, the next challenge was to find a heat resistant bowl. With a background in ceramics, Berto was inspired to design a Japanese Zen bowl that is heat resistant. Perfect for burning incense in a safe and beautiful way. The bowls are made out of an epoxy infused with crystals and fire-retardant materials. It not only looks good but it creates a ritual where you can burn your favourite raw resins in a unique way.
History of incense burning:
Throughout history, many cultures have followed the practice of burning incense for religious ceremonies. The art of incense-burning known as smudging is most commonly associated with Native American cultures, but in Indian cultures the burning of incense is a daily devotional practice. In many Middle Eastern cultures frankincense and oud are burned daily to ward off negative energy but also to infuse clothing with a beautiful aroma. In Japanese and Chinese cultures, incense has been handmade for thousands of years to be used as offerings in temples and home shrines.
What is smudging? Smudging is the purification process of creating smoke by burning plant material. The plant materials made into a smudge are known for taking away the negatives, cleansing, harmonising, balancing and bringing good energy back.
